Imprisoned as a child by her evil father, Helena Lambarth vowed upon his death to never again live under a manís rule. But to honor her motherís last wish, she journeys to London to enter society and finds herself a reluctant houseguest of the handsome Lord Darnell.
Adam, Lord Darnell, has little time to oversee the bedraggled hoyden heís agreed to sponsor. Saddled with his fatherís debts, he knows his one hope is to win the hand of a wealthy heiress and that woman is Priscilla Standish. If only she werenít so plain compared to Helena, with her unconventional ways and uncommon beauty, and if only his ward hadnít suddenly transformed into a bewitching young woman, maybe he wouldnít be so confused and frustrated now.
The desire that develops between Helena and Adam cannot be denied, but can the love they try to resist conquer Helenaís demons and free them both?
This was a very powerful and moving romance. Helena endured unspeakable hardships thanks to her father and is emotionally scarred to the point of never trusting another male. Adam canít believe that another human being can do such things to someone, especially a daughter who should be adored and loved, not treated like a virtual prisoner in her own home. Adam and Helena had to sort through a lot of emotional baggage before they can accept that the love they share is a once in a lifetime thing.
A strong plot, well-written characters and high emotion make this a fantastic read. Julia Justiss is a most gifted author with a flair for giving the reader just enough sexual tension and outline to keep her readers glued to the pages.
I canít wait to find her past written books. Iím sure they will be just as entertaining and romantic!
