Financially secure, the Merry Widows now perform countless acts of charity. Their bond has deepened into a firm friendship. When one of them challenges the remaining widows to take lovers, they are scandalized – and intrigued. They agree to meet the challenge.

Beatrice, Lady Somerfield, is chaperoning her niece through her first Season, and has had no time to take a lover. Until one night at a masquerade, when the fates hand her a mysterious man, a secluded corner and an abandoned interlude of passion. She is grateful that her identity remained a secret, but she harbors a wish to know who her “maharajah” was.

The Marquess of Thayne has returned to England after eight years in the East. He has come home to find a bride and set up his household before his 30th birthday, which was a promise made to his parents. He has not been too interested in the young debutantes in the marriage mart, but one look at “Artemis” and he throws caution to the winds. Their encounter in the garden has left him stunned, and desperate to learn her identity.

As Beatrice introduces her niece to potential suitors, she meets Thayne, and hopes that her niece, Emily, may secure a future Duke. The more she sees of Thayne, the more she is attracted to him, and feels guilty about it. When he realizes that Beatrice is “Artemis” then all bets are off!

Just One of Those Flings is a delight from start to finish. Author Candice Hern really knows how to keep a reader interested with her sharp dialog and quick pace. The characters are immensely appealing, and readers will be eager to find out which Merry Widow will be next!
