It has been a while since there was a Stella novel from Nancy Bartholomew, and upon starting What Stella Wants, I discovered that I missed reading about the characters. From Stella herself, trying so hard to be a tough capable detective, to her ditzy cousin Nina, the characters are charming and endearing.

This time, Stella gets caught snooping on her elderly Aunt Lucy’s admirer, and gets in big trouble. Then, she is contacted by a former classmate, who mysteriously disappears before their meeting. Bitsy’s car is blown up, and Stella fears the worst. She and Jake can’t help but continue the investigation.

Fans of Stephanie Plum may enjoy the Stella series. The characters are just as kooky, and the situations can get a bit dangerous, but there is a keen sense of humor that maintains the pace. The book is not as involved as other series, but the writing is crisp and clean.

What Stella Wants will keep you guessing as the plot unfolds, and keep you entertained as the main characters try to stay one step ahead of the bad guys.
