Miss Juliana Applegate is about to start on the adventure of a lifetime. After discovering that her father had sired a half brother, Juliana is invited to stay in London to scour the city for an eligible husband. Juliana wants no part in that scheme however. Unfortunately, from the moment she arrives in London, plans start going amuck.
Due to a health crisis at her half brother’s home, Juliana is warmly welcomed into the home of Margery Lyon, Countess of Sealey. There she meets Lady Sealey’s shy and gentle godson, Sir Oliver Ramsey. She also makes the acquaintance of his monkey, Mia. Needless to say, Mia is not enjoying being studied by Sir Oliver, a zoologist. His love of science knows no bounds…except he can’t quite stomach killing Mia. Juliana whole-heartedly agrees and they bond over their mutual soft heartedness. However, Juliana is sure there is no way her growing attraction to Sir Oliver can go anywhere. She’s an almost penniless country girl, while he has some wealth.
Animal antics aside, something serious is happening in Lady Sealey’s household. A mysterious villain is leaving cruel notes for the Countess and she is getting worried. Who would want to harm her? Juliana and Oliver are determined to see the villain brought to justice. Amidst threats, love starts to blossom and bloom.
Seducing Sir Oliver is a refreshing breath of fresh air for the historical romance genre! Finally, a hero who isn’t a typical rake, and who doesn’t have more experience than the heroine. In this delightful story, Oliver and Juliana are well matched. He’s a shy but studious scientist. He has just as much trouble around women as Juliana struggles with around men. Their blushes and glances are charming, and coupled with their growing affection, prove to make this novel a blessing. Lady Sealey, Mia, and a cast of other intriguing secondary characters add another layer of pleasure and energy to this story.
