Hands up all you romance fans who have dreamed of finding your own wilderness hunk and spending long Arctic nights in his arms! Okay, 99% of you can put your hands down. The other one percent – shame on you for fibbing! Here they are, fans, two tales of happiness in the depths of Alaska! Having read the first in the “Bachelors of Bear Creek” series, I was thrilled to find this Harlequin Duets book featuring two more tales of those gorgeous Alaskan guys seeking wives!
In “Sexy, Single, and Searching”, Lori Wilde introduces us to Cammy Jo Lockhart, a reclusive and shy Texan miss, who has won a trip to Bear Creek to meet the eligible guys! She’s had a terrific crush on Mack McCaulley and nearly dies of embarrassment when he shows up to pilot her to Bear Creek! Mack, used to the attentions of cheerleaders and sorority belles, can’t understand why he’s attracted to little Miss Mouse, and is even more surprised when he meets Camryn Josephine! You see, a friend takes pity on Cammy Jo and helps her out – push up bra, contacts, make up and a decent hairdo! Add a pair of spiked heels, and the right wardrobe and – voilŕ!!! You have a woman who knocks Mack’s socks off!!! Will Mack realize that Camryn is actually Cammy Jo? Will Cammy ever get up enough nerve to tell Mack who she is? Will Mack and Camryn/Cammy ever get it on? Well, you’ll just have to read this story to find out how these difficulties are resolved with the help of an ancient Alaskan amulet.
The second tale, “Eager, Eligible and Alaskan”, strains the credulity a little more than the first story. Jake Gerard, owner of the Bear Creek Inn, has no idea that the sexy exotic dancer he helps out is actually the hypnotized, uptight, vinegar heiress, Sarah Stanhope! Sarah, in her alternate persona of Sadie, becomes a hot tamale, eager for Jake’s body!! Jake, of course, being the studly but moralistic male that he is, dithers. Yeah, right. As I mentioned, this tale is considerably more far-fetched, but still holds the attention right up until the last kiss! Let’s face it, there’s nothing nicer than a hunk falling for a “normal” girl and ignoring the gorgeous women who flock after him in droves!!! Even though, in this case, normal is almost borderline schizophrenic!!
These two tales are lighthearted, loving, and warm, and feature nice people falling in love, even though sometimes their situations are a little over-the-top. I’d still recommend them as a delightful read for any romance fan.
