Fountain Creek, 1870
Annabelle Grayson has to travel to Idaho to claim land her husband left for her. She can not travel alone; she needs an escort who knows the territory. The last person she expected to see again applied for the job, Matthew Taylor. The last time they saw each other was when Annabelle was working at a house of ill repute.
Matthew Taylor has been running from his past. He has been looking over his shoulder for far too long. When he finds out about a job to help a woman travel to Oregon by wagon, he decides to apply, hoping to blend in and be able to further distance himself from his past. He was shocked to learn the woman was Annabelle, his late brother’s widow.
Annabelle and Matthew are at odds with each other, there are misunderstandings which will need to be cleared up if they are to travel together. As they travel they learn about each other, Matthew does not want to believe Annabelle married her brother for love, he wants to hang to his belief she married him for the land. Annabelle understands Matthew’s anger and mistrust in her, but she knows he will have to realize the truth in his own time.
This is the second book in the Fountain Creek Chronicles. Wonderful to meet up with characters from the first book, Rekindled and meet new friends in Revealed. The author, Tamera Alexander is a gifted storyteller. The characters are strong, true to themselves and their beliefs. Highly recommended.
