Alexander Devize, soldier to his country, eldest son of the Earl of Standish and heir to his late father's holdings, is summoned home by his mother to assume his duties to his title. Waiting for him, he belives, is Diana Sherwood, the beautiful girl with whom he shared an unforgettable night of passion and the woman he intends to marry. But, Diana, more enchanting than ever and just as stubborn, has other intentions.
A soldier's daughter, Diana refuses to suffer the hard world of being a soldier's wife and instead throws herself headfirst into her coming out into society, ignoring the memories of a romantic and reckless Alex. Convinced that she's found the proper, stable gentleman from her many gentlemen callers, she pursues her course, unaware of a plot building around her or of the unwavering devotion of a soldier willing to fight for all he's worth in a battle to win her heart forever.
A sweet love story of promises unfulfilled and dreams lost. Starcrossed lovers Alex and Diana must run the hurdles to finally come to a point in their lives where the only thing that matters is love and none of the other garbage that happens along the way.
Joan Wolf writes a wonderful story full of passion, intrigue and most of all love. All of her characters are full bodied and believable and the settings are beautiful, drawing the reader to a place far away and worth every effort to get there.
