L.A. shoe designer Maddie Springer is late. Not late as in late, but late late. She goes to meet her boyfriend, Richard, for a lunch date, and is stressing how to tell him that she might be pregnant when Richard comes out with a dark-haired man who turns out to be a police officer. Richard tells Maddie he canít make their lunch date and that heíll call her that evening.
But Richard doesnít call. And twelve unanswered calls to him later, Maddie goes over to his apartment to check on him. But Richard has packed his bags and skipped town. No one seems to know where he is. And now the police officer is on Maddieís tail asking difficult questions.
When a murdered woman is discovered that is somehow related to Richardís disappearance, Maddie decides the time has come to step out of her stilettos and onto the trail of a murderer. But can she catch the murderer before the killer catches her?
Spying In High Heels is the first book by Gemma Halliday Iíve read and I enjoyed it. I was immediately drawn into the story and couldnít put the book down. Even though I felt Maddie obsessed a bit too much about the little things, she was real and I stressed along with her as she hunted for her missing boyfriend and about the possibility that she might be pregnant.
I highly recommend Spying In High Heels and would love to read the sequel to this, Killer in High Heels coming in the Spring of 2007. Chick lit and mystery fans alike will not want to miss Spying In High Heels.
