Upon arriving home from a disappointing blind date, Abby Maitland realizes she’s locked herself out of her apartment. While waiting for the locksmith to arrive, her date decides to press his luck. Zan Duncan had sensed some urgency when she’d called and hurries to her address. He finds her struggling against a man and quickly takes care of the situation. After unlocking her door, he requests a kiss as payment. Although wildly attracted to Zan, Abby has had enough bad boys in her life, and is determined to avoid them at all costs.

Zan realizes she’s going to resist her attraction to him and, desperate, he comes up with an idea. He offers a no strings deal - he’ll be her secret lover, coming to her at night, fulfilling all her fantasies, and no one but them will ever know. Very tempted, Abby asks for some time to consider the offer. She just doesn’t know if she can have sex with him and not get emotionally involved.

But circumstances keep bringing them together as a killer carefully orchestrates a scheme, planning to frame them for his crimes. While trying to deal with an emotional situation, Abby gives in to her passion, and Zan takes advantage, pushing her into a far more erotic adventure than she’d dreamed possible. But out of bed she doesn’t appreciate his jealousy and lack of restraint.

Shannon McKenna has once again created a very tenacious alpha male. This seems to be a common trait in her books, and I’ve grown to love them all. Despite being over-bearing and single-minded in his pursuit, Zan’s insecurities and feelings make him a very three-dimensional character with a heart of gold.
