Ashley Cade never expected to lose her husband so unexpectedly and be raising their young son on her own, but tragically that is the hand she has been dealt. Ashley has moved to a small Ohio town with her son and bought an old home she hopes to convert into a bed and breakfast as well as a home. Ashley hopes to give her son a great life in this small town surrounded by people who truly care about him. Basically she wants him to have the simple great life that she never had.

This is easier said than done because becoming accepted in a small close-knit community is much harder than she ever thought it would be. She has made one friend in Wilson the older gentleman she bought her house from. The old guy has won a place in her heart and has been a godsend in helping her out with her son as she tries to make the needed repairs to the house in time to open for the upcoming tourist season.

Joe Brody is back in town. He had been convicted of a crime he didnít commit and has recently been released from prison. Joe has returned to Ohio to care for his ailing father who is now living in the local nursing home after some recent health problems.

Escaping his past proves to be a real challenge for Joe as he soon learns that people in this small town all think he is guilty and are very unforgiving. He canít find a job despite the fact that there are several help-wanted ads in the local paper. It seems that people just donít want to hire him.

A chance meeting at the hardware store where Joe helps Ashley return a part to a very unscrupulous salesman is the turning point for these two lonely people. With the encouragement of Wilson, Ashley hires Joe to help her make repairs to the house. Although the attraction between the two is strong, the whispers behind their backs could prove to be stronger and sabotage the tender relationship they form. Will they begin anew or will the past haunt them forever?
