Single-mom Elissa Towers relies only on herself to get the job done right. So when she can’t get the lug nuts off her flat tire, Elissa doesn’t know what to do. Then, out of nowhere, appears Walker Buchanan, her upstairs neighbor. They’ve never talked but suddenly he’s offering to help her with her tire. Elissa is loathe to say yes but she has no other choice.

When Elissa discovers Walker has bought her a new tire, she’s really irate. But they work out a deal that she’ll pay him off and cook him some dinners in exchange for his service. Sounds like it will be the end of their connection, but for reasons unknown to both of them, their tentative friendship grows stronger. It’s laced with an intense attraction that both try hard to ignore. Elissa has to take care of Zoe, her five-year-old daughter, and stay ahead of the bills, while Walker, an ex-marine, is just trying to figure out what to do with his life now that he’s not killing for a living anymore. Neither has the time for a friendship, let alone a relationship, but their connection proves Irresistible to ignore. Do these two have what it takes to put the past aside and focus on a future together?

Irresistible is the second book in Susan Mallery’s delightful Buchanan series. It’s reserved Walker who takes center stage in this story, as he battles his own inner demons, tries to help a dearly departed friend, and resist Elissa’s charms. They each have their own private complications that make falling in love an impossibility, but sometimes the need for companionship, affection, and respect is too strong to ignore. Susan Mallery imbues her characters with endearing qualities, such as Elissa’s stubborn personality and drive for success, and Walker’s all around good guy persona, along with some not so endearing but definitely necessary qualities, that really round out the characters. These are three dimensional characters that will find their way into your heart. Added to the growing romance between Walker and Elissa is the continued presence of the Buchanan family who help to add some spice and extra conflict to the story.

Irresistible is the kind of story that makes the heart glow warm and happy from the satisfaction of a well-told story, interesting and exasperating characters, and a love that is sure to weather any storm.
