Eight years ago the death of one person changed many lives. For two people, Caleb Tucker and Sophie Owens, the changes were ominous. One is very sad and lost and the other is the happiest she has ever been. Not only will it make a change in their lives but also those close to them, especially Caleb.

Caleb Tucker was too busy to go shopping with his wife. He wanted to fix the tractor that he was working on so she went by herself. Later that night his wife was found near death where she had been brutally raped and left for dead. She lived in a catatonic state until there was no more the doctors could do to help her. Before her death she gave birth to a baby girl. Her parents blamed Caleb for the death of their daughter for IF only he had gone with her but it is too late to change that now. His own parents are struggling also.

Sophie Owens adopted a baby girl on the same day of Laney Tucker’s death. She has her daughter Grace and felt that she was given A Gift Of Grace, one that was such a wonderful gift for her to nurture, teach as well as love in ways that she never was. Sophie's childhood was not fun by any means. Her Aunt and Uncle raised her for her after her family died in a house fire. She was the only person to survive. Sophie’s Aunt always made her to feel as if she owed them for taking care of her. br>

One day Sophie was in need of some hay for Grace's birthday party and she stopped by the business that was operated by Caleb Tucker. He could not believe the likeness in Grace and his deceased wife, Laney. While talking with the child he realized that her birthday was the same day as Laney’s death. He started to put two and two together and realized that this is the child he gave up eight years ago.

Now all the questions start! Did he do the right thing by giving up his wife’s child? Would it be right to fight to undo the adoption? How would this affect Grace? Will Sophie fight back? What about his former in-laws and his own parents? Will Caleb just walk away for the sake of the child or can Sophie and him work something out that will make everyone happy?

I enjoyed this book by Inglath Cooper but felt that the story was not complete. There was such sadness going on with everyone and I found that to be very distracting. This is not a keeper for me.
