This is more of a thriller than a romance. But the attraction between Lexie, the heroine, and the hero, Cole, is definitely there. As this is the third book in the Alex Masters series by Brenda Bodin, there are many other characters in the story that will have appeared in the previous ones. Of those characters, Luce, Coleís sister, is pregnant and this is shown in the early part of the story as Cole is close to his sister.

The story is fast paced and has a good mystery that gripped me throughout the story. I liked Lexieís character. She has many hang-ups and problems but is very determined, though quite frightened at the situation she finds herself in. Cole is strong and determined to help her, but tries not to tread on any toes as he is a policeman and does not want to infringe on another policemanís Patch so to speak.

With a contract on her head, Lexie is not a girl to just accept going into hiding. She is a person who needs to know what is happening at all times, and this doesnít make Coleís job any easier.

Brenda Bodin has some excellent characters here, and she links them all through a band that the main characters play in as a part time occupation. And since solving the mystery and saving Lexie is far from straightforward, in addition to several counterplots throughout the story, this keeps the reader guessing, which always makes for an interesting read. Iíll definitely be on the lookout for more in this series.
