Alissende de Montague had precious little time to foil the wicked plans set against her. The urgency to do so robbed her of any opportunity to think of an escape from a marriage to a beast of a man. Or at least, a different way than the one contrived by her priestly cousin.

Hugh, an uncaring man who would make a cruel husband, had his eye on Alissende and her dowry. His brother Michael, however, had a plan for Alissende to escape and it included her former lover.

Damien de Ashby had been madly in love with Alissende five years ago. That was then. He was a different man now. After being publicly spurned by her, Damien joined the Templars. He used his energy to train his way into becoming a lethal weapon for the cause. When King Philip declared the Templars heretics, Damien was among those imprisoned. He didnít expect to see his home or his brother again and most likely would not have had Michael not falsified a Writ of Absolution. His freedom from the Inquisition for a marriage bound to Alissende.

Will the former lovers reconcile their past in order to survive the present threats? What does the future hold for a woman accustomed to hiding her heartís desire and a man who has lost all hope?

Reading the first book in the Templar Knights series by Mary Reed McCall intrigued me, so I did my own researching on the Templars. When an author's work affects me to such a degree, I am compelled to follow the path to the next book. In this case, Sinful Pleasures.

Ms. McCall does not disappoint with her second installment. Damien is a tormented hero who heats up the pages. His very foundation was shaken after experiencing the Inquisition. Not realizing the resiliency of the human spirit, Damien believed he was beyond saving. Once married to Alissende, he experienced her sweet love and tender patience. Within a sham of a marriage, he gained renewal and learned that he was the one who really needed rescuing.

Historical detail in no way overwhelms the love story. Alissende and Damien are always the focus. I enjoyed Sinful Pleasures and look forward to the next in this series.
