In the final installment of her Botany Bay series, Edith Layton brings us Daisy's story.
Daisy Tanner has taken the ton by storm and Leland Grant, Viscount Haye wants to know everything about her. Why did she come? What is she after? Who is she after and why? He is very suspicious of her motives and plans to find out just what she is up to.
Despite Daisy's desire to come to London and make a safe and uncomplicated marriage, Leland keeps throwing a monkey wrench into her plans and unbalances her with his rakish sensuality and roguish ways. How is she supposed to make a match if he keeps interfering? ARGH! If she isn't careful, her scandalous history could become common knowledge and worse still, she might actually fall in love with the wretch and though that might be heavenly, it will not be peaceful!
Though I haven't read any of Ms. Layton's previous Bontany Bay books, I wasn't too lost with the characters...and there were quite a few to keep track of. Daisy and Leland were well written but lacked a certain something that would have made me appeal to them more. I felt that Leland was too much of a stick in the mud for my taste...he was almost boring. Daisy was so busy worrying about her past being revealed, that I felt she wasn't as strong a character as she could have been, especially for being a former convict on Botany Bay.
I'm sure that Ms. Layton's other books are just fine, but this one just didn't hold my attention for very long.
