Captain Wolff Ulbricht is in dire need of care for his wounded brother Karl and has no reservations about demanding it from a beautiful rebel woman by the name of Evangeline Gauthier.
Evangeline Gauthier is surprised and more than a little angry when her cotton plantation is invaded by Yankee soldiers in search of refuge. Captain Wolff is the most infuriating man she has ever met. He is demanding and arrogant and most importantly they are enemies. So why is it that she cannot deny her unmistakable attraction to him?
Among the ravages and tragedy of war Evangeline and Wolff find passions paradise and a love that transcends both their beliefs. A breech of trust and simple sibling rivalry finds Evangeline, Wolff and Karl in a treacherous love triangle that causes a rift between the brothers. Will true love prevail or will its substitute be enough.
I found this novel an enjoyable read its only flaw being an adverse lack of definitive romance at its basic core. Aside from that fact the story and plot were believable and its characters were unique. Evangeline played the role of the proud southern belle to the end while Wolff portrayed the fierce and strong army Captain. Its plot had depth and I found its eventual resolution wholly satisfying.
