“What the Hell am I doing here?” Was the thought crossing Aaron McKade’s mind as he drove his pick-up truck to his new job as a construction worker in Santa Angelita, the South Central Los Angeles barrio. Construction? Heck, Aaron had no clue about hard labor! The youngest of three brothers raised by their wealthy grandfather who was head of the family business, McKade Import-Export, of which Aaron was in charge of the west coast division. It was Pop’s idea that each of his spoiled grandsons learn a “life lesson” and he had chosen Aaron’s to be with Barrio Amigo, a non-profit organization that was helping to rebuild the barrio for the low income Hispanic population of the community. Finally finding the address of the work crew he was assigned, Aaron almost lost his tool belt at the site of his new boss, sexy forewoman, Jennifer Alvarado!

Jennifer Alvarado thought her higher ups at Barrio Amigo were loco! They had sent her an Anglo that had not the first clue as to what to do with a hammer and nail! Yet, there was something about Aaron Smith that got to Jennifer’s long buried heart. Aaron arrived every day for work on time, and was always trying to do the best he could. Not only was he carving a niche of respect out for himself with the other men, he was developing a rapport with the people of the community, especially lonely old Mrs. Padron. Jennifer had been romantically burned by an Anglo, a mistake that cost her and her family dearly! Jennifer was reluctant to repeat her gaffe in the romance area, but her attraction to Aaron was growing by the day. There was also the fact that Aaron was so out of his element in his new chosen profession of construction worker. His polished demeanor, his luxurious apartment, his shiny new truck, all screamed money! Therefore, what was he doing working on her crew? As Jennifer and Aaron get closer, and Jennifer lets out her suppressed emotions, she hopes that she has not made another bad judgment call!

The first in a new series by one of my favorite authors, Marin Thomas, Aaron Under Construction proves again, why Marin is an expert at what she does! Knowledgeably crafted characters that scream reality, and situations that any person could find them selves in, give this story a feel for authenticity. A high-quality blend of romance, humor, and action give Aaron Under Construction my thumbs up! I look forward to the next installment of the McKade brothers series.
