After he was thrown over by Miranda Cameron, for that half-breed son of an English general, Phillip Maddox, the Duke of Colster, found himself on the receiving end of the tonís fickle attention. Used to a degree of respect for his position, Phillip cannot abide the pity and misdirected humor at his recent situation. It is an intolerable predicament, and one that has consequences for the real villain - Miss Charlotte Cameron. After all, it was her interference that allowed Miranda to break their engagement. Charlotte has made a powerful enemy.
And they say that women are more vengeful! Charlotte would beg to differ with that opinion. Ever since she thwarted the Duke of Colsterís plans, her social life has plummeted. Left with no prospects and a younger sister to support, Charlotte accepts Laird MacKennaís invitation to visit his home in Scotland. He is considerably older, but not unattractive, and Charlotte realizes that this may be her only chance for marriage.
What happens next is a thrilling, intriguing tale of deceit, revenge and passion that Cathy Maxwellís fans will love. In the Bed of a Duke is much more enthralling than the first book in the series, and I hated to arrive at the final page. Ms. Maxwell has fleshed out the characters we have met before, and given them a great plot to play in. I will not divulge the nature of the story since there are some interesting twists to the tale. However, I encourage readers to find out for themselves what happens when sworn enemies are thrown together in a dangerous situation.
