One of the wonderful perks of being part of a website like this is the chance to read other’s opinions of books and authors that one hasn’t read yet – this is how I discovered Susan Andersen, and now I’ve made a new friend – Suzanne Brockmann!! Spicy, gritty, and very funny, her writing style is easily compared to Linda Howard and Elizabeth Lowell – all three women love their well-crafted plots, strong heroes and surprisingly tough heroines!!

This book is no exception and I loved it from the first chapter! The hero, jaded FBI agent Harry O’Dell is close to having a death wish (think Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon 1)! Elegant Alessandra Lamont is being threatened by an underworld boss thanks to her late ex-husband’s shady business dealings. Of course, sexy, rumpled, tough-guy Harry ends up guarding elegant, sophisticated, cool-as-a-cucumber-in-her-$400-suits Alessandra. This is a mis-match made in romance-lover’s heaven!!!

How Harry reconciles his growing attachment to this lovely uptown girl, and how Alessandra becomes “Al” and learns that a pair of strong arms can be infinitely preferable to a pair of Manolo Blahnik shoes is the meat of this charming tale. Of course there are bad guys out there – some are closer than Harry thinks – and there’s also a wonderfully revealing sub-plot involving Harry and his estranged children. But it’s the romance that takes us by the hand and leads us down the convoluted paths of this adventure – our desire to see Harry and Allie find each other and passion and maybe a future together.

Spellbinding in its intensity, and almost impossible to put down, I highly recommend Body Guard - especially if you’re a fan of snappy and taut contemporaries!! I am thrilled to have found a writer I liked so much and I can’t wait to read more by this imaginative author!!!
