Eight years ago, Grace Archerís world changed forever. A CIA mission in ruins, her father dead, Grace is swept away into protective custody to avoid capture by an international criminal. She has remained in hiding with her daughter, Frankie, on a rural Alabama farm. When the political climate changes, Frankie becomes a bargaining chip, and Grace may be expendable. She is forced to trust the one person who betrayed her.

Jake Kilmer made his own deal with the CIA for Graceís safety. Now the time has come to reassert his place in her life. He cannot trust anyone else with the mission. There will only be one chance to take down Marvot, and remove the threat from Grace and Frankie. He wonít fail.

Once again, author Iris Johansen has readers on the edge of their seats from the first page. On the Run delivers a non-stop combination of action, emotion and passion. Readers will easily identify with Grace, who will stop at nothing if her childís life is threatened. Jake is a steadfast hero who was willing to give up his own chance at happiness to keep Grace alive. Now there is nothing to stand in his way.

I found this book to be compelling and intriguing. A familiar plot to romance readers is infused with outstanding characters and Ms. Johansenís crisp writing style. The romance takes a back seat to the action, but is still a vital element. I could hardly put it down and finally surrendered to the pull and finished the book in the wee hours of the morning. It was well worth the lost sleep.
