Kate Harris had been a dutiful daughter, and a loyal wife. She lost her husband Bob almost a year ago. She is just going through the motions. She does not have a clue on what to do nor does she know who she is any longer.

Mac McCord is a security expert. He is almost a fanatic when it comes to keeping his love ones safe from harm. When he meets Katie, it was love at first sight for him. Kate also fell in love at first sight. They have a short engagement. After they are married, they honeymoon in the Middle East. Kate had taken some courses in the travel business; she was all prepared when they were back home to start her job in the travel business.

When they arrive home, the travel business is put on hold, as she must sell her house and at the same time look for a new house with Mac. It happens Mac has purchased a house, which Kate adores. The house has such an elaborate security system, Kate is wondering why all the security.

While planning their first wedding anniversary, Mac is run-down by a drunk driver who had driven onto the running path. Kate is wondering if it was just a horrible accident or if the driver meant to kill Bob. She is comforted by her family and a long-time friend, who is grieving over the loss of his wife. Kate will come to realize she has been a strong woman all along.

This was a wonderful book. Kate was a likable character. This is Charmaine Gordonís first novel.
