After falling off a horse and hitting her head, Michaela Campbell falls into a coma. Her husband Liam tries to hold it together emotionally for the sake of their children. But the longer she remains unconscious, the more apprehensive he becomes. Life goes on and while hunting through his wife’s closet for a special dress for their daughter to wear to a dance, he comes across memorabilia from her life before him. He knew she’d been married before, but not to whom she’d been married. He also knew that she had deeply loved this man, far more deeply than she’d ever loved him. Coming across a photograph he’s shocked and hurt to realize she’d been married to famous actor Julian True.
Every day he goes to the hospital and spends hours talking to her, hoping she can hear what he’s saying and that one day she’ll come back to him. When he mentions Julian’s name, Mike’s body responds for the first time since her accident. Liam sets aside his personal feelings and contacts Julian, asking him to come to Washington and visit with Mike, hoping he’d possibly be able to pull her from her coma.
Liam is such a loving man, putting his wife’s life before himself. He knows that by bringing Julian back he may very well be losing the woman that he truly loves. But he’s willing to sacrifice everything for her. The author draws the reader in by bringing such emotion into each of the characters, making your heart ache for them. We feel for Liam, Mike and their children.
