This is the beginning story of a series of books set in the small town of Haven in the 19th century.
Haven is a peaceful, friendly community - and it is here that Emma settled seven years ago. She has a past that she desperately needs to hide and buying a store in Haven helped her settle and establish a new life there. Then Noah arrived in Haven with his little girl - and a secret to hide as well.
Emma certainly did not want to fall in love but Noah attracted her and awakened feelings she had buried long ago.
I enjoyed the setting and the author introduces characters in the story that the readers will meet in future tales of the series. She made the secondary characters interesting enough for the reader to look forward to meeting them again. In addition to appealing characters, there is a good plot running through the story with a few added stories going on, all intertwined very well so that the whole narrative runs smoothly. There is a strong attraction between the hero and heroine and some light touches as well as some heart stopping moments. There is also some interesting historical details regarding the Children’s Aid Society and the good work they did woven into the story and used to introduce the wonderful character of Sean, who becomes so much a part of Emma and Noah’s lives.
Jo Ann Ferguson makes the first in this series a good introduction to Haven - a place that will be worth a return visit.
