Mystery writer Lucy Rothschild has been researching online dating as a way to gain more insight for her next book. As part of the research, she’s meeting with some of the men she’s chatted to online. She needs inspiration for new creative ways to murder her characters, and as most of the men she has met are losers, they are giving her all sorts of ideas. Then she finds herself sitting across the table from hunky Quinn McIntyre and can certainly understand where he got the handle ‘hardluvnman’. Even though she finds him handsome and with no obvious hang ups, she has no intention of ever seeing him again.
Detective Quinn McIntyre is undercover and trying to stop a killer who is suffocating men she’s first met online, and then in person. Lucy is a prime suspect and her knowledge of murder certainly doesn’t work in her favor. Neither does the fact that her latest manuscript almost exactly follows the real murderer’s handiwork. Even knowing she may be a killer, Quinn can’t seem to fight the attraction he feels for Lucy.
Despite her hesitance to become involved with Quinn, she finds herself unable to turn down his repeated invitations. As the two become closer they both feel guilty for the lies they are telling each other, but are hesitant to tell the truth. When the truth is revealed, Lucy is hurt, but soon finds herself reliant on Quinn for protection from the real killer.
Lucy’s three friends – all writers in different genres – have plenty of advice to give and their relationships with each other enhance this romance. The excerpt from the author’s next story also reveals that at least one of them will be getting their story told next.
Rachel Gibson delivers yet another delectable story filled with romance, humor, lies and murder in Sex, Lies, and Online Dating – what a combination!
