Kenly Alister knew when she hears her fathers footsteps on the front steps, her life was to fall apart once again. Since her Motherís death, her father has taken to drinking. He canít seem to hold a job, and they wind up moving to another boring, dull town. This time they are moving to Athabasca, Canada. This sounds like the end of the world to Kenly. But she puts on a brave front and moves there with her dad. She doesnít have much of a choice.

Once they arrive there, she almost immediately meets Tommy. He is quite disfigured, but he has a heart of gold. They become fast friends. When its time for Kenly to leave to go to College, her and Tommy have a romantic evening together. Tommy over the course of their friendship tells Kenly of The Tin Box. Its what is important to you. It could be a ticket stub, a good luck rock, anything which will fit in the tin box.

While at college she meets Ross. They start seeing each other and soon Kenly realizes she is pregnant. While pregnant she learns she is further along than she thought. Could this be Tommyís child? She makes a decision which will haunt her for the next 18 years.

When she receives a call, telling her Tommy is extremely ill, she knows she must go and be with him and tell him before he dies the truth, but can she? She also knows she has to tell Ross the truth. Will they stay together? Or will her secret revealed take everything away ?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is highly emotional read. Keep a box of tissues handy. The authorís writing style keeps the reader glued to the book.
