Amethyst OíShaunassy has always been a dutiful daughter, even though her no-good drunk father does not deserve her dutifulness. When he informs her she is traveling to Medora, Dakotah Territory to bring back Joel, her brotherís child, and the heir to the property, she is not happy, but in the end she knows she has no choice but to do her fathers bidding.

While traveling, she becomes ill, when she finally arrives in Medora; the Heglandís take her into their home to recover. While recovering, she uncovers a secret which will change her plans and her destroy her fathers future.

There is also another guest staying at the home of the Heglandís, Army Major Jeremiah McHenry. He has just retired from a long military career. He just wants to live a quiet, normal life. When he meets Amethyst, he is instantly smitten with her. He wants a wife and family.

Jeremiah and Amethyst fall in love, but she feels the handsome Jeremiah will be just like her father, he would treat her more like a servant than a wife and helpmate. She also has decided to stay and not return home to her father. There just isnít any point in returning to the life she had there. This is her chance to start a new life. Jeremiah does understand her misgivings; he needs to convince her he is nothing like her father.

This is the final installment of the Dakota Treasures. It could be read on its own. But to fully enjoy the entire series, the books should be read in order of their publication. Lauraine Snelling is a multi-talented author. Fans of this series will not find disappointments in the final book.
