If you are a regency romance fan than the name Jacquie DíAlessandro brings a quick beat to your heart and a breathless anticipation to read her newest novel. Not Quite a Gentleman should induce the above reaction in every historical romance reader. This book is a master piece of humor, love, and adventure all set in a time period I have come to love and adore.

Nathan Oliver is a retired spy turned country doctor who is enjoying rusticating in the country with his menagerie of animals when an unexpected surprise arrives on his doorstep - Lady Victoria Wexhall. Lady Victoria is not happy to be sent to the country during the height of the Season in London and while she trust her fatherís decision to send her she is confused by Nathanís actions and his insistence that she might be in danger. Little does Victoria know that her father is also a spy and has sent her to one of his most trusted men for protection while her father works to discover who has betrayed England and her father to the enemy. When Victoria and Nathan discover a map hidden in her things danger begins to confront them at every turn. As the two of them are just trying to survive a love that was once a spark turns into a smoldering fire that leaves them both wanting more. Together they must discover a traitor in order to save England and themselves.

Not Quite a Gentleman is an enjoyable and passionate story that reveals a love between two very different people who might not have fallen in love if circumstances were different. This book has a sense of humor to it, which is very enjoyable for the reader and provides a moment of levity in an otherwise serious book. Nathanís animals are the one of the best aspects of this story and give the reader a glimpse into the heart of a very care and special character. Lady Victoria is a strong willed woman who knows what she wants out of life and feels constrained by the dictates of society. I immediately felt a kinship with this woman who will do anything to save the man she loves. The mystery is well thought out and has enough surprises that it keeps the reader interested until the very end. This is a wonderful, touching story that will be enjoyed by many readers. I highly recommend this sweet and fascinating love story to any reader.
