Liz Potter planned to spend the night celebrating with her parents and sister after signing papers making her a new business owner. This event has been a long time coming as she just recently reconciled with her parents after twelve years of hurt feelings. Since Liz has also just received an appointment to the town council, there will be plenty to celebrate.

When her father calls with news of her motherís disappearance along with the family computers her world turns upside down. After calling the local sheriff, a family friend and another friend who is a district attorney, Liz is quickly summoned to the district attorneyís office. Upon arriving Liz finds the FBI waiting for her. It seems that her boring housewife type mother has been charged with first degree murder.

The FBI is convinced that her motherís real name is Sarah Jane Maynard and that thirty-four years ago she shot two guards. The accomplices involved with the crime are not in custody yet. Even Liz begins to question her motherís innocence when she refuses to talk to an attorney. It seems even her father thinks his wife has been hiding something.

Convinced that things arenít as simple as the FBI thinks, Liz joins forces with ex-cop Caleb Adams. Liz is determined to dig for the truth. The story really heats up when Lizís house is set on fire and her nieceís life is threatened. Can sexy Caleb help her free her mother or is he hiding secrets of his own? Will Lizís family survive discovering the truth?

Readers who love digging through a tangled web of clues before reaching a shocking conclusion will truly appreciate Ms. Potterís newest venture into the world of suspense. Of course the readers who want a touch of spice thrown if for good measure will also be delighted as this book will help take the chill out of your bones this winter.
