Tricia Campbell, her baby son, and her firefighter/paramedic boyfriend Scott live a simple but happy life in San Diego. However, Tricia’s life will soon spin out of control when she reads in the paper that socialite Leah Montgomery from San Francisco has disappeared and politician and state attorney Thomas Whitehead might be to blame.
You see Tricia Campbell is only an alias that she created to help keep herself and her newborn son safe. In her old life in San Francisco, Tricia used to be Mrs. Thomas Whitehead, and her best friend was none other than Leah Montgomery.
As the days go by, Tricia’s anxiety for her friend only increases. She may be the only one who knows just what a monster Thomas is. When she wakes up one morning to read in the paper that Thomas is being charged with her own murder, she must make some drastic choices. Should she return to San Francisco to try to clear the name of a man who almost killed her?
Meanwhile Scott is left wondering what has caused the drastic changes in his girlfriend’s life. Should he take a few steps of his own to discover what secrets she hides?
This is my first full length read by Ms. Quinn, and I was impressed with the unique storyline. A few times during the course of the book I felt the story could have moved along just a tad bit quicker. However, for the most part, Ms. Quinn does a great job of mixing romance and suspense while keeping the reader interested. I’ll be adding her back titles to my wish list and looking for her next book in the summer of 2006.
