Laird Alan MacDonnell is dying and needs to see his precious younger daughters, Gillian and Rose, safely married like their eldest sister, Isobel. The MacDonnell sisters are witches, but have to keep the fact a secret in these trying times of witch-hunts and burnings, for that had been the fate of their beloved mother, Lillian, a very powerful white witch. After Lillianís tragic death, Alan had sent his daughters to live with foster families hoping this would keep them safe. Bringing them home, Alan arranged marriages for each of them. Isobel had followed her heart marrying Sir Phillip and had not married the man Alan had intended for her, powerful nobleman Nicholas Lyon, the Earl of Kincreag. Middle sister, gentle, quiet Gillian was slated for marriage with an elderly Frenchman, but rather then lose her newly reunited family, Gillian agrees to marry the dark, scowling Earl who is rumored to have murdered his first countess, and other members of his household at Kingreag!

Very few things move somber Earl Nicholas. Having lost so much in his lifetime, he keeps his thoughts and emotions in check. Gillian MacDonnell may just have the key to unlock Nicholasí heart with her exotic beauty and gracious kindness. The fact that Gillian may be a witch like her sisters only makes Nicholas more determined to protect her from all who would harm his new wife. Something dark and ominous is again stirring at castle Kincreag upon Nicholasí return with his bride, Gillian. People are being poisoned, and several attempts are made on Gillianís life. Gillian is determined to prove that her handsome husband has been deeply mistaken to be a murderer, even at the risk of her own safety. There is something evil that resides in Kincreag castle, and if Gillian and her sisters cannot find its source, she and Nicholas are doomed!

Kudos for Jen Holling, she has outdone herself! The second in the MacDonnell sisters trilogy, My Devilish Scotsman, (hard to believe) is even more action packed, and exciting then the first My Wicked Highlander. I was intrigued by the dark and brooding hero, Earl Nicholas, in the first book and was excited to see him matched up with shy and insecure MacDonnell sister, Gillian. I canít wait to get my hands on the last chapter in this super charged trilogy, My Shadow Warrior!
