Isabel thought she had the perfect plan to trap Edward, Lord Caenby, to be her husband. Only it wasnít Edward that showed up and seduced Isabel but one Major Sidney Chamberlayne. Isabel canít believe that she has to marry him, she was already a widower and that should have been enough to cover up her misguided plan of trapping Edward.

Sidney is a man of honor, a soldier, and he does what he thinks is best and that is to marry Isabel. Even when no one wants that to happen, not even Edward, who in reality set Sidney up for this fall. Sidney was determined to marry Isabel, he just wasnít sure why, he was still trying to figure it out.

These two people needed someone and they didnít even know it. Isabel is strong and independent, but she needs someone to love besides her aunt. She needs the love, companionship, and trust that only a husband can give her. Is Sidney the one to break down the barriers that she had put around her heart?

Sidney is on a mission to get to know the woman he married and to break down those barriers and hopefully find the passionate woman he kissed in the library. Is he up for the task at hand? What about his brother, the Earl of Haddon, and his mother, and his sister Julia, what do they think of him marrying Isabel?

There are more forces at work in Once Upon a Sofa than just Sidney and Isabel trying to make a life together. We have fortune hunters after Juliaís fortune and it takes all of Isabelís strength and wit to try to keep Julia out of trouble. This isnít the only troubles that are at work in the story; we have a mystery as well.

Once Upon a Sofa is the first book for Ms. Robens and one I enjoyed. She was able to bring two strangers who shared a passionate kiss and help them find the love of their life with each other. The secondary characters play an important role in the story, they are not just there for the added background we need for the main characters, they are the catalyst that drive Sidney and Isabel toward each other. Ms. Robens has found a new fan and I canít wait to read her next story, Just Say Yes.
