Simon Winters, the jaded Lord of St. Albans, is intrigued by the half-naked, exotic beauty lying in his bed. Anticipating a night of pleasure, he is disappointed when men barge in his room saying that there is a thief on the looseóespecially when one of the men is Lord Nevin, a man he dislikes and has no patience for. Getting rid of the unwanted men, Simon turns back towards the woman and realizes that things have changed when he sees her aiming a pistol at him. Having no choice but to let the woman go, Simon is determined to meet up with her again.
Gypsy Glynis Chatwin needs to find her parentsí marriage certificate so that she can prove they were married and that her brother is the legitimate heir and therefore should have the title of Lord Nevin. Cutting her search of Lord Nevinís room at the inn short when detected by a maid, Glynis sneaks into an empty room hoping to avoid discovery not realizing that the man who walks through the door will change her life forever.
A Much Compromised Lady brings together well-developed characters that learn and grow within the scope of the story. Simon is completely and utterly arrogant and watching him not get his way is one of the most satisfying parts of the story! Glynis just wants a cottage in a small village, a place where she can finally put down roots; and if posing as Simonís mistress to gain access to Lord Nevinís world will get her her dream cottage, then that is what sheíll do. While I said that the characters grow, they donít have complete turnabouts, which is always a plus in a story. The plot was interesting, but the characters make this story well worth your time.
