In a moment of weakness, professional poker player Jax Gallagher throws an IOU for a very valuable baseball into the pot during a game – and loses. There’s a problem however, in that he doesn’t actually own the ball. Now he’s got only so long to get his hands on it before he loses said hands. With that goal in mind he purposefully sets himself up to accidentally meet sexy Las Vegas showgirl Treena McCall. As his father’s widow, he knows that she’s in possession of the valuable item.

Jax had already formed an opinion of Treena before ever meeting her, expecting a cold and cunning gold digger. She’d married his father only a short time before he’d died, and Jax had no illusions that it was for any reason other than to get her hands on his money. When he meets her in person, he’s taken off guard and wonders if she’s really as down to earth and kind as she seems, or just a really great actress.

Jax soon finds himself genuinely attracted to her, and Treena feels herself opening up in a way that she never thought possible. The story is made even better by a great cast of secondary characters including Treena’s best friend Carly, and two other tenants in their building – Ellen and Mack, who are like surrogate parents to the girls. These two can’t seem to behave when they are in the same room together, resorting to insults and barbs like children – resulting in some very entertaining scenes.

As the reader we go into the story knowing that Jax builds this relationship on a lie, and for this reason I couldn’t wait to finish the story, to see how the truth would come out and how he was going to salvage something so precious. Fans of this author and first time readers alike won’t want to miss this true romance.
