Madeline Morgan has accepted the fact that at the ripe age of 23, love and marriage are not for her. When Madeline learns of her father Robert’s plan, she is not in a good mood. Her father has decided, before Madeline’s younger sisters can get married, Madeline has to be married. Faced with the fact the bachelors in town will start calling on her, and none of them appeal to her, she turns to her brother for help.

Before Madeline knows it, the story around town is she is engaged to the long gone, Evan Montgomery. No one has seen him for eight years. The town authorities have put the Montgomery home in Madeline’s name. The only thing Madeline can do is live on the Montgomery land. She hopes she will finally be able to live her life the way she wants to.

Two years have gone by and suddenly there is a Montgomery is town, not Evan, the man Madeline is waiting for, but his brother, Trevor. He has come home to heal. He is surprised to learn his brother has a fiancee waiting for his return at his home. He senses something which Madeline is not telling him. Before he can get it out of her, he falls seriously ill. Madeline is the only one around who can care for him. She is concerned once Trevor learns the truth, he will kick her out of the house. Then the town would consider her a fallen woman, having stayed at the house with a man who is not her intended.

This was a lively, fast read, the characters were believable, charming, you felt their every emotion on every page. If you read and enjoyed the other books in this series, you will most definitely enjoy this book as well.
