Cowboys and horses - they go hand in hand. So when Flint McCray needed someone to train a horse for competition, he gets the very best trainer - J.J. Adams.

Only J.J. Adams is not who Flint thinks he is, especially since J.J. is short for Jenna Jo! Flint, as much as he wants to, cannot get out of the contract he signed before meeting Jenna given that he doesn’t think a woman can handle being a horse trainer. Only Jenna is more than capable of training a horse and proves him wrong at every turn.

Jenna is stubborn, caring, strong willed, determined to live her life the way she wants it and will not let Flint or anyone else get in the way of her plans. She wants her own home and ranch but a husband does not fit into the picture. At least, that is what she thought until she meets Flint – a cowboy who may be able to change her mind.

Flint is just as stubborn and pigheaded as Jenna. And like Jenna, he also has a very caring nature, which he shows to his son and the men that work for him. But because of his first wife, Flint cannot trust them. And when he sees Jenna working with a horse that has never been broken, his protective instincts kick into over drive.

Can Flint get over his mistrust of females to give Jenna a chance? He knows he cares for her – not to mention lusting over her and the sexy t-shirts she is always wearing, which have a rodeo saying on each one that could and might have a hint of truth. (You’ll have to read the book to find out!)

Ms. DeNosky weaves a delightful story. The story was fast paced and hard to put down, and had some laugh out loud moments. The secondary characters of Flint’s young son and his cook, who is a former ranch hand himself bring their own unique flavor to the story. And trust a precocious four-year old to always tell exactly how it is! Although it can be quite embarrassing to the adults involved, it is hilarious to those who are not – really entertaining for the reader! Then, of course, there is Cooper, Jenna’s brother, who always makes his appearance and who is just as stubborn and caring as Jenna.

With entertaining characters and a romance that won’t quit, A Rough and Ready Rancher is a highly recommended read!
