Once upon a time Abby Wade Ryan and Jeff Garret had pictured a happily ever after for themselves in their hometown of Sweetwater, Oklahoma. One unfortunate incident changes not only the outcome of their young love but those of many of the small town's residents. So Abby leaves town vowing never to return. Jeff settles in and establishes roots.

Abby’s life away from home was far from the fairytale life she had envisioned. Now she and her two sons are headed back to Sweetwater to move in with her mother. Abby’s home is now resident care home. On the day of Abby’s return, Jeff is moving his father Gideon in. It seems both Abby and Jeff will have to deal with a torrent of old memories a lot sooner than either had expected.

It seems not much has changed in Sweetwater in all the years Abby has been gone. Old memories still live in everyone’s minds. It seems that most of the residents of the town are locked in the past with old grudges still being strongly held. Can Jeff and Abby untangle themselves from the past and move forward into a bright future.

I’d classify my first read by this author as a typical summer read. No part of the story was extraordinary, but if you are looking for a story of old lover reunited or a charming home town story than this is the story for you.
