Unit One is a highly secret covert ops organization. One of its current missions in to infiltrate the Soldiers of Jordan, a religious cult commune, that may pose a serious national security threat. Operative Melanie Beecham is given the assignment to go undercover and take advantage of the charismatic leader's weakness for Aryan blondes.

At the same time, fellow operative Nikolai Anwar is assigned to gain the trust of a high level senator's wife in an effort to uncover government corruption. Nikolai is a charming, handsome man, but his dedication to the current mission is at odds with the emotional bond he has built with Melanie. For the time being, they have to play the parts of lovers who have had a nasty break-up.

Full Pursuit is the second in a trilogy, but a detail rich exposition at the beginning of the novel brings the reader up to speed. After that the action takes off at full throttle and does not slow down. There is one rather steamy love scene, but the emphasis of this romantic suspense story is suspense. The pacing is fast and furious and action packed.

While the hero and heroine are engaging, the most intriguing character is Zachary Wharton, the villain. He is the leader of the Soldiers of Jordan. Zachary is highly intelligent and charming, but very creepy in his efforts to brainwash people and bring them into the fold of his cult. Like many fanatics, he believes he has received a mission from God. In his twisted, ego-maniacal mind he feels the end justifies the means, even though it would bring death and destruction.

Ms. Creswell has written a spellbinding tale with Full Pursuit. I will be looking for Decoy, the first in the series, as well as the upcoming Final Justic in May 2005.
