Serena Keller and Zane O’Malley have been together for four years… four long years that drained them both of any sexual pleasure they previously felt with each other. Zane is sick and tired of hiding his dominant nature. He cares for Rena deeply, but he’s not sure how much longer he can go on being Mr. Nice Guy.
Rena enjoys making love with Zane, but he doesn’t excite her very much. When she is asked to make a website for an online adult business, she discovers that her sexual nature tends towards the submissive side. She longs to be controlled, to be spanked…to be dominated by a strong and commanding male. Unfortunately, due to a bad marriage, she’s a bit scared of giving that kind of control to any lover, even Zane.
When Zane places an ad at the website Rena is working on, he’s not sure what to expect. He doesn’t like cheating on Rena, but he is continually finding life with her dissatisfying because he knows there could be so much more between them than the tame sexual encounters they share. When a woman answers his ad, she seems like the answer to all his problems. She’s exciting, willing to share her fantasies, and best of all, willing to be his submissive. But Zane is in for a big surprise when he goes to meet his mystery woman, only to discover that it is Rena!
Surprise and shock are quickly replaced by a burning sexual need to experience all of Rena’s fantasies, but will she turn back into the tame sexual partner he has always known, or will she finally let her more wild sexual side run free?
Zane’s Way is a sweet and sensual story. Though it has a BDSM theme running throughout the story, it is not hardcore by any means, more like a softer, romantic BDSM. Though I enjoyed watching Rena become freer in her sexual nature, I was a bit frustrated at times by the lack of communication between Rena and Zane. It seemed to me that they shouldn’t have had to suffer in placid sexual encounters for four years if they had both sat down and talked about what they wanted in their lovemaking. Nevertheless, this story was well paced and well written. This story isn’t that explicit, though it contains instances of anal sex and the use of sex toys.
This is the first book in Maggie Casper’s O’Malley Wild series and I think it provides a good start to the trilogy. I really enjoyed how Zane’s relationship with his brothers came through in this story. It was a lot of fun to read their banter, which makes me look forward to the other stories. Overall, this was a pleasant read that really demonstrates how much work it takes to make a relationship work, no matter how long a couple has been together. Once Zane and Rena sat down and talked about what they wanted and expected from each other, they were both much happier, which in turn made this story a lot more fun to read.
