With only a brother left as family, Claire Aldrich set out to find Donald Aldrich. She arrived in San Francisco with very little money and it was running out. If she didn’t find her brother or a job fast, she would be put out on the street. She went searching for a job and walked in the hotel co-owned by Garrett Monroe, one of the richest men in San Francisco and his friend Christopher Landauer.
Claire is beautiful, sassy, stubborn, and courageous, and, despite being penniless, will marry for love only. Garrett is handsome, arrogant, always gets what he wants and does not believe in love. The bargain he makes with Claire is something no gentleman would consider offering to a lady - and Claire is very much a lady! But since she is also a desperate lady, she accepts his “job” offer of being his fake fiancé to appease his grandmother into thinking he is getting married - and Garrett will do anything to make Theodora Monroe happy since she has a weak heart.
The sparks between Garrett and Claire is instantaneous and kept getting bigger and bigger until it ignites! Amid the sparks, Garrett helps Claire look for her brother, which is part of their bargain. What he didn’t bargain for is the adventure that sweeps Claire, Garrett, her brother Donald, and Christopher into a complicated mass of events! The turn of events brought Claire and Garrett closer together, making Garrett realize how much he really cares and loves Claire. Claire knew from the beginning she had to protect her heart and tried not to fall in love with him - but fall in love she did and eventually gives her heart and soul to Garrett.
Patricia Waddell weaves a tale as fascinating and colorful as San Francisco’s Chinatown! This is the first book I have read by Ms. Waddell and it definitely will not be the last
