Echoes is an intriguing mixture of several genres: romance, gothic, historical, suspense, time travel, and the paranormal. Ms. Gray brings her characters and their situations to vivid life, and keeps the reader on a roller-coaster ride with scenery changes of present and past.

In modern day, Tess Carson rushes to California after getting a call that her sister has disappeared and abandoned her daughter. When she gets there, she discovers thereís more to the mystery. Her sisterís boss is dead, money is missing, and Tess feels sheís just walked straight into a Gothic novel.

Grant Weston is the dead manís son, and the most unlikely of ally for Tess in her search for the truth. Grant has deep secrets --- demons that haunt him, but Tess is drawn to him. And --- to his brother Craig Weston.

Then, strange events start happening. Tess is convinced sheís either going crazy or being haunted. Visions overwhelm her of a past life in 1849 where she, as Molly Marshall, traveled with the Weston clan in a wagon train.

The story switches back and forth, to the present as Tess tries to solve the mystery, and back to the past as Molly tries to unravel her purpose for being where she is.

Peopled with many characters and a few subplots, this is a story that keeps a reader turning those pages. Just when youíre not sure how itís going to turn out, a happily-ever-after ending brings a satisfying conclusion.
