Victoria Temple Whiting is forced to flee from her stepfather beneath the cloak of night. Daring to find freedom, she set out with younger sister in tow and grasping the only thing of value she can easily carry: the brideís necklace.

Though rumored as cursed the necklace provides enough funds for the Temple Whiting sisters to escape the evil clutches of their stepfather. The ladies had planned their departure in advance, however, the possibility that Tory murdered Miles Whiting caused the plan to develop into a hasty requirement. It is possible they are wanted for murder as well as theft.

Tory needs a job. Finding one without references proves difficult. She goes door to door in search of a position. Her quest lands Tory on the steps of the Earl of Brantís home. She thinks her prayers have been answered after he offers her the position of housekeeper. But has she jumped from the frying pan into the fire?

Cordell Easton, Fifth Earl of Brant, decided just that morning that he needed a new mistress. While finding a willing woman for his bed was never a difficult task he still couldnít believe his luck when a gorgeous blonde practically fell at his feet. Too bad she came with a sister. What was her name, ah yes, Victoria. No problem, he would keep one sister busy with chores while he seduced the other. A wicked, but pleasing strategy indeed. It should have worked. It would have worked had the older sister stayed out of his way and out of his thoughts.

The best laid plans and all that. Cord and Tory thought they had everything figured out until circumstances spiral out of control leaving them with choices neither are ready to make.

Author Kat Martin has produced a wonderful new book marking the beginning of a trilogy. Both hero and heroine have a mission, she to protect her sister and he to rescue his cousin. Exceptional characters and a fascinating plot will no doubt captivate every reader whether new or familiar to the authorís work. The Brideís Necklace is a superb achievement. Donít miss the first in what will surely be a successful series by Kat Martin.
