Gianna Lakewood has been in love with Enrico DiRinaldi since she was fifteen years old. Their mothers were best friends and they have always been in each other’s lives. Feeling as she does, it comes as no surprise that when she receives a call that Rico has been in an accident that leaves him in a coma, Gina drops everything to rush to Rico’s side.

When Rico comes out of the coma, it is Gina who is at his side. Rico’s supermodel girlfriend, Chiara is very self indulgent and can only seem to think of herself. She is very jealous of Gianna and tries to make Rico send her away. When it is discovered that the accident has left Rico paralyzed, it is the self-centered Chiara who leaves.

Wanting to be married and have children, the paralyzed Rico proposes marriage to Gianna. Wanting to help him recover his self-esteem and hoping that her being around will make Rico fall in love with her in the true sense, Gina agrees to the marriage of convenience.

Lucy Monroe is one of the best as writing the truly Alpha male hero. Her male characters are to die for and Rico is no exception. Gina is the perfect heroine for him in that although she has always been in love with him she is not about to let him have the final say in all things either. She is a spirited woman in her own right and is not afraid to stand up to Rico.

Ms Monroe has the unique ability as a writer to draw her audience into her story and make them feel as if the events are happening to them. In addition to two extraordinary main characters Ms Monroe has added the secondary character of Andre, Rico’s brother to this story. He does an excellent job of being both Gina’s friend and Rico’s ally as well as his voice of reason when need be. I would love to see Ms Monroe create story with Andre as the hero in the future. He defiantly needs his own story. With a strong plot and compelling characters Ms Monroe is fast becoming one of my favorite Harlequin authors. The Italian’s Suitable Wife is sure to gain her even more loyal readers. Ms Monroe is defiantly a new author to watch.
