Aidan, a centuries old vampire, finds love for the first time when he meets lovely Neely, a single mom and senator's aid. Though a relationship with a mortal is forbidden, he hungers for her, and she for him. Despite the strong objections of his beloved twin, Maeve, also a vampire, and mentor, Valerian, Aidan begins a quest to become mortal again. Finding the answer may cost him his life, but it is worth the price to him. Risking it all, he defies the vampire council, his loved ones, his own fears, and Heaven itself, to attempt the impossible.

This is an incredible start to the four book series that held me captive several years ago. While Aidan and Neely's story was haunting and heartbreaking, even more fascinating was the world that opens to the reader in this novel. Maeve, strong and proud sister, who loves her brother too much, is an enigmatic heroine whose book is next in the series. Valerian is one of the most delicious vampires in literature. These people walk the line between being good and bad skillfully, making them all the more intriguing. This is a world populated by every manner of other worldly creature. Warlocks, witches, vampires, and angels war against themselves and each other. If you love vampires, you will surely treasure this book, and its sequels.
