This third, but hopefully not last, book in Ms. MacAlisterís vampire series introduces us to Nell Harris. Sheís lured to the Czech Republic under the pretense of being permitted to study a priceless piece of history. Itís not until after she arrives that she finds out itís her skill as a Charmer that is needed.
Nell tried charming once, many years before, and it ended with the death of her best friend. Since then sheís denied that part of herself. Now here she is in a foreign country with a woman asking her to use her powers to help rescue a young boy. On top of that sheís exposed to a reality she never knew existed Ė vampires, better known as Dark Ones.
After sneaking into Christianís (you may remember him from the previous two books) castle in search of clues, she literally runs into Adrian, aka The Betrayer. But after learning about his past, Nell is able to look beyond it and see the good inside him. With Nell at his side they set off to rescue the boy and to stop another Dark One from trying to come to power.
Sex, Lies and Vampires contains the authorís trademark humor, but not to the same extent as the previous books in her series. While I didnít laugh my way through her love scenes like I have in the past, there were still many humorous moments as Nell bases her knowledge of vampires on what sheís learned from watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. Adrianís amusement at her lack of knowledge is almost as fun to read as his exasperation as she tries to come up with the perfect pet name for him.
Fans of this series wonít want to miss this book and will enjoy visiting again with Christian and Allegra. Donít be surprised when it ends up on your keeper shelf.
