Mac Taylor is blinded and very bitter after an explosion that killed a colleague in the crime lab they both worked in. He needs help, so his mother arranges to hire an experienced nurse, Julia, who was once his next-door-neighbour and has carried a torch for him for years.
Mac sure gives Julia a hard time in this story but she is hard to shake off - she has had worse patients but they were hard to recall at times when dealing with Mac. I liked the way she handled him. He might be tough and mean but she was no pushover!
There is a great plot to this story and it takes a bit of unravelling.
Mac is forced to trust Julia to be his eyes as he tries to wade through the mire that caused the explosion, and to sort out who the real villains are.
The secondary characters, other members of the Taylor clan, are a welcome addition, but the best ones are the formidable Mothers. Juliaís and Marcís Mothers are a formidable duo; they team up well together to protect their offspring and bring about a romance between them if they can. The romance does heat up very satisfactorily as the characters have great chemistry together and they sure set sparks flying.
The reader always knows, in this type of romantic suspense, that the outcome will be on the side of the good guys but it is how they arrive there that creates the excitement. Julie Miller knows how to make that excitement sizzle and the plot thicken with excellent twists, leading the reader on a merry dance.
I highly recommend this book. I enjoyed every page of it.
