Itís been 35 years since the druidh Pendaar accidentally bought ten Scottish warriors forward in time for one of them to sire his heir. There are only five of them left now, and they all have families and businesses in the 21st century and have no desire to return to 12th century Scotland. Well, all but one, Ian MacKeage is 85 years old and ready to return home. He misses his wife and children that he left behind. There are only two people who can return him, Father Daar and Robbie McBain, the guardian of the clan. There is one other thing, unless Father Daar can extend the spell that bought the highlanders to the future, they will all return to the past at the summer solstice. In order to do that, he must have a piece of the root of a tree of knowledge, because his power is weakening. This is a job for the guardian.

But Robbie has other problems. He has an egg thief and he is determined to catch her red handed. Only he didnít count on her being as cunning and quick as a fox. Because Robbie McBain has just crossed paths with his destiny. Robbie has been responsible for everyone his whole life. For the first time he is about to meet someone who is just as determined. While heís protecting her, whoís protecting him? With a house full of boys, a social worker breathing down his neck, a judge with the power to remove his charges from his custody and a pain in the neck druidh bugging him, Robbie is still determined to keep the beautiful Catherine Daniels for his own. He just has to convince her that she wants the same thing.

Catherine is running for her life and the safety of her children. Her abusive ex-husband is out on parole and she is afraid for him to find her. The last time they were together, he put her in the hospital for 3 weeks. She just wants to be safe and to live a normal life. She never expected to end up the housekeeper for 4 teenage boys and a big, handsome, sexy Scotsman. Robbie McBain makes her feel safe, so she is willing to give it a chance, even though she is afraid. But she is tired of running and has run out of money. Who knows, maybe this is the best thing that ever happened to her.

Ms. Chapman has once again given us a wonderful story full of magic, time-travel, and sexy highlanders. Catherine is a strong woman who found the courage to leave her abusive husband and to try to start over. I was very impressed with Ms. Chapmanís handling of her abusive background and her reactions to Robbie, the boys and other men rang true. Robbie is just a joy. Funny, compassionate and willing to help anyone in need, he is almost too good to be true. Whether jumping back and forth through time to save his family or gently showing a skittish woman that all men arenít animals, Robbie makes you want to find out if there really is a guardian highlander hanging out in the mountains of Maine.
