FBI forensic scientist Alexandra Forsythe receives a desperate message from her best friend Lorraine Carrington. Four simple words, I need your help, had the power to make Alex put her life on hold in D.C. and return to Arizona.

As graduates of the prestigious Athena Academy, Alex, Rainy and the other “Cassandras” as they were known, made a pact to always be there for one another no matter what the problem. Alex didn’t think twice before returning to Arizona. Unfortunately she wasn’t quick enough as Rainy is killed in an unfortunate accident before Alex arrives.

As the other members of the Athena class gather for the funeral of one of their own, they make a pact to further investigate what had the young woman so troubled that she sent out the call for help. Little do they know they are about to uncover secrets that someone wants kept in the dark. Would they be willing to kill to keep the truth from coming out?

Someone is sneaking onto the campus grounds at night doing a little investigating of their own. Could this be the mysterious Dark Angel from 20 years ago when the “Cassandras” were students at Athena? Just what is this mysterious stranger looking for and does it have anything to do with Rainy’s death?

In Proof, the first of the twelve-book continuing Athena Academy series, Justine Davis delivers a tightly woven, page-turning mystery that will have the reader turning pages well into the night. Ms Davis does a fabulous job of introducing characters that will no doubt play a role in the books that follow in this series.

Although I would not classify this book as your typical romance, the main character does have a difficult decision to make as far as her romantic path is concerned. She must choose to follow her head or her heart and the decision is not an easy one for her.

I would caution readers to remember that this is a continuing series and therefore all the ends are not tied up at the conclusion of this book. There are several questions that are left unanswered and the book does not have the typical happily-ever-after ending. I have no doubt that the loose ends will be dealt with in the future books in the series.

If romance and the all-important HEA ending are what you are looking for you may want to pass on this one. If a tightly woven story with strong characters and lots of twists and turns are your primary concern then be sure and pick up a copy of Proof. You won’t be disappointed and will be waiting anxiously for the next installment to hit the shelves.
