SILVER LINKS by Shannon Donnelley is an emotional story of love and forgiveness. Lady Olivia Duncastle, wanting to be seen as informative, shares the secret that was supposed to be kept between her and her husband. Seeing that his wife has become a gossip and just like his mother, a woman who helped in ruining his father and their family, Lord Duncastle knows that he must be firm and keep a part of himself from his wife. Hurt by his coldness and the distance that is now between them, will Olivia find a way to breach the rift that has torn them apart and make her husband see that she isn’t the flighty and gossipy person he assumes her to be?

The second story, THE VALENTINE HUSBAND by Alice Holden is a tale about a woman who will do anything to avoid an arranged marriage—even lying to her father, telling him that she has been compromised. Her “seducer” is a man that has been thought to be lost at sea and therefore unable to make an honest woman of her…which in turn makes her unable to marry without bringing shame upon her family. What is she to do when the man in question suddenly appears, alive and as handsome as ever, wanting to know why her father demands that they marry?

The final story, AT FIRST SIGHT by Joy Reed is a light-hearted read about a young woman, Phoebe Fairchild, who is in love with the thought of being in love. Declaring herself in love with Mr. Randolph Harris, Phoebe will follow in the path of her sister and a Valentine myth, and scheme so that Mr. Harris will be the first person she sees on Valentine’s Day, insuring that he will become her husband. What will happen when her plans go awry and the first person she sees is the handsome clergyman, Mr. Alan Stanfield?

While I enjoyed all of the stories and found that they were all equally well written with great characters, I must confess to enjoying AT FIRST SIGHT the most. I was completely charmed with the way Phoebe believes herself to be in love with the capricious Mr. Harris and then how she comes to ultimately realize that he’s an inconsiderate flake.

MY SWEET VALENTINE is an emotional and delightful anthology that you will be glad you didn’t miss.
