It has been a while since I read a book by Cathy Maxwell. Iím not sure why I waited so long before picking up another of her books. I have them on my shelf but theyíre sitting there, just waiting for me to pick one up. Donít wait too long before you pick up Temptation of a Proper Governess, you will not be disappointed.
Michael Severson is back in England to right a wrong and find a killer. He was accused of a murder he didnít commit and now that he has made something of himself, he is out to prove it wasnít him who killed his mistress. In the years that he has been gone, he has grown a lot and hopefully can see things different now.
Isabel is a proper governess, or at least she tries to be. She is looking after the best interest of her charge, which is really a teenage girl who is set on snaring a husband in anyway she can. But it wasnít her charge that was caught in a compromising position, but Isabel herself.
So what happens, Michael proposes to Isabel and the marriage is in name only. Michael is also out for revenge and hopes that he can somehow use Isabel as a pawn. Michael and Isabel are both attracted to one another and that is how it all started, this attraction between the two of them.
Michael is still trying to prove his innocence and with the help of Isabel, he just might. But what will happen when Isabel finds out one of the reasons that Michael married her? Will she be able to forgive him?
We have a story that deals with second chances not only for Michael but for Isabel as well. She is hiding a secret that she wants to keep, but in the process of helping Michael, it might just come to light. Can the murderer be found and Michael finally put to rest his past? These are just a few of the struggles that Isabel and Michael must face, along with their growing attraction and protectiveness of each other.
Donít miss Temptation of a Proper Governess, it has all the elements and desires we have come to expect from Cathy Maxwell as well as humor intertwined as well. The little wars between Isabel and Michael and how they react when in public, is something to see. This is one of the best stories I have read all year long. Ms. Maxwell is able to draw you into the story from the start and will keep you interested until the last sentence is read.
