Newcomer Jennie Klassel, brings us a tale of young love that stands the test of time, well sort of!
Lady Kaia has loves Lord Eben since she was three years old and he a grown man of about 14 years. In her young heart, she wanted nothing more than to be with him forever and when she asked him if he would ‘mawy’ her, Eben promised to wait her little Kaia to grow up and then he would marry her. Of course he said that only to make the little girl leave him alone so that he could go and be with his friends!
Now at seventeen years old, Lady Kaia was going to really ‘hurt’ Lord Eben if he didn’t stop calling her ‘little one’. Can’t he see that she is a woman grown, with feelings and desires? All Eben could see was his “little Kaia”, in trouble again and it was up to him to get her out of it, “again”! How could she be so stupid as to leave the safety of the nuns and run off with some nut cracked monk and a wizard who fancies himself as Merlin, the great wizard? But all that Kaia wanted was to learn to read and write, and Merlin promised her a world, in the future, where women were educated and could marry a man of their choosing.
When Eben finally catches up with Kaia, it’s to find that ‘Little Kaia” isn’t little anymore and the girl with whom he grew up with and loved like a sister, made him feel things that were not at all brotherly. When had this happened and what was he going to do about it?
I absolutely loved this story. It was refreshing, fun and a real page-turner. I read this book in one sitting; I just couldn’t out it down. Kaia and Eben are the classic star-crossed-lovers. Neither realizing what they have right in front of their noses. Oh Kaia has always known that she loves Eben, but getting Eben to realize that he indeed did love Kais, now that was the corker. Kaia leads Eben on a merry chase, literally. But is their love really meant to be or just a wishful dream?
I predict great things for Ms. Jennie Klassel. If this story is any indication, we will be seeing some wonderful stories from this author.
